Muhurta - Muhurta(electional astrology) has a very important place in our lives, almost all important auspicious functions be it marriage ,naming ceremony ,starting a new venture etc are performed at right muhurta so that we have additional grace and blessings of God/Universe.
I asked my dear friend ritu bhatnagar (jyothisha acharya)who specialises in timing muhurta to pen a column on the same and i thank her for sharing her views on importance of muhurta and its effects.

MUHURUTA MYSTIC
Time or “Kaal” is the essence of life. Our entire existence is woven intricately around past (bhoot-kaal), present (vartmaan-kaal) and future (bhavishya-kaal). From the womb to the pyre, every instance of our life-form is controlled by time. All life-forces in the universe are time-bound and hence it is the most important factor affecting our lives.
A “Jeeva” is bound to perform a number of karmas after birth, depending upon his or her destiny. They can be good or bad and that is not under one’s discretion. What is under our control is to perform a task to the best of our capabilities. And “Muhuruta” is a tool that aids us in acquiring a desired result, if not accomplishing it.
Muhuruta...the right time, the favourable time, the auspicious time...many names but a simple definition. Literally Muhuruta is the period of two ghatis or forty-eight minutes but in reality muhuruta is the positive period that is deemed to help a life activity to begin, mature and fructify. It is supposed to be the right fusion of elements of time, celestial factors and planetary energies that will prevent any obstacles or negativities that might hamper the realisation of the undertaken event or task.
How does a muhuruta help? An appropriately fixed muhuruta tends to harmonise the physical and astral energies for a particular time period, for a particular task. “Giving a muhuruta” is an attempt to align the positives and negatives attached to a task with the complimentary time elements and find a period that will help an individual or event reach to its finale.
However it should be noted that our Karmas are “destiny-bound” and our results are “karma-bound”. Auspicious results can be obtained if we follow the path of sincerity and righteousness. A good start can only help an activity that is done with good intentions and bears good effects on self and society.
